The Leibniz Association is committed to applied research.
Back in 1669, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz attached the motto Theoria cum praxi to his complete works. As part of this association, we are fundamentally committed to this principle. When carrying out our research, we always start with the premise that it is for industrial or public health (official) purposes. Against this background, in recent years we have acquired particular expertise in the field of assay developments and substance testing.

Efficient research requires resources and strong partners. As a public-private partnership, Leibniz Alternatives is set up to cooperate with efficient players from the chemical, cosmetic, or pharmaceutical industry for the mutual benefit of everyone involved. We advise our partners on alternative methods, test substances, and develop assays. However, we remain an independent research institute acting on behalf of the public sector. We manage the cooperation using generally recognized contractual arrangements. Cooperation agreements and contracts governing commissioned research are based on the usual terms of reference for research cooperation partnerships.
IUF – 20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
Leibniz Alternatives has evolved from the 20 years of research at the IUF – Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine in Düsseldorf. The methods established at the IUF are successfully used today in basic research and for regulatory purposes.
